    Those who violate the FCC rules by running excessive power interfere with other licensed services. Therefore, the FCC is doing what we pay them to do. The same goes for people who operate on the Ham bands without the appropriate Amateur license.

    I have a true story for Y'all. My wife and I once lived in a trailer Park. The Lady across the street was ALWAYS complaining about me interfering with her TV, simply because she saw the R-5 on mu House. She constantly complained to the Park Manager. She even filed a complaint with the FCC-interesting because on the dates she specified in her complaint, my wife and I were visiting friends in CANADA! What finally brought the thing to a head was when she saw me on my Porch one day. She stormed over to me, and started yelling that the "Radio" sitting in front of me was was messing up her TV yer again. What she identified as my Interference causing "Radio" was MY PISTOL THAT I WAS CLEANING AT THE TIME! Perhaps Smithy & Wesson needs to be Checked out by FCC, LOL!

    She is most likely hearing a CBer running a lot of power. A lady on my street when I was a kid said she heard a male voice in her house and she called the police. After investigation the police discovered the sound was coming from an incandescent light bulb in her kitchen. The voice was the guy next door that had a set of golden eagles and a large amplifier. He donated his equipment to the FCC when they showed up at his door.

    Thanks for the video. My family and I do a decent amount of camping trips and boating. I'm not looking for the prepping aspect. My use case is radio between my wife and I when backing in the camper/boat to tight areas, communicating between ourselves when she's on the boat and I'm at the storage unit getting the trailer, and potentially communicating between family members on the lake where cell service is non-existent. The lake is in TN so it's hilly terrain, and the lake is about 50 miles long I think. What's your suggestion for radios? What's the max range I can do without a license?

    • @HamRadio2
      @HamRadio2 13 часов назад

      Your question about Max Range is a common one, but it isn't one that is easy to answer. It completely depends on what is between you and the other station you want to talk to. 50 miles is possible with a Ham or GMRS handheld radio, if you have a repeater in between you and the other station, but likely not possible without a repeater. Non-licensed handheld radios, such as FRS and MURS, do not have the capability to talk that far. CB radio might work for you, it is possible to talk that far, but can also depend on weather conditions.

    I REALLY wish Baofeng would build a scanner. I bought the DMR radio they made and it worked well I don't know how much more it takes to get Phase 2 digital simulcast. I think DMR dual slot is similar I would love to see Baofeng make a scanner and demolish Uniden the way they demolished Icom , Yaseu, Kenwood and the other companies that were making Radios for 10 dollars and charging customers 800 dollars. Uniden does this and It is my dream to see a Baofeng SC-2R scanner for 100 dollars that does NXDN, OPEN SKY, PHASE 2 DIGITAL SIMULCAST, DMR AND Standard analog with coverage from 25 MHz to 1.3 Ghz, all mode, AM, NFM, FM, WFM It was such a an eye opener seeing the 5R the first time for 35 dollars and out of the box it was VHF / 222 / UHF I thought that the big guys would cut their prices, but they didn't. I saw a video of a sneaker factory in an Asian country, and they we're making sneakers for four major retailers and they were making them for a big online seller and they were also making them for the just do it company and the price for the big box stores was $20 and the difference in the material was that the just do it was a little bit thicker and the graphics were different and the color was different but I fell off my chair when I saw that the cost of the sneakers was 2,800 dollars Corporate greed they literally will charge anything they can and seeing the videos made by employees from factories where they make the same exact products for huge American companies and they make a generic version for the people in Asia and just like the Baofeng where you can buy one for $20 in the store in Asia, they sell for 800 in America. I saw on auction last year a scanner that was in Japan in 1983, and it was 1000 channels and it was all mode and .5 MHz to 1 Ghz It was way ahead of its time. It is awesome to live in these countries and be able to buy American goods for a fraction of what America pays I remember when I first saw the 700 /800 MHz Yagi antenna and it was 20 dollars from China. I bought 2 and they were awesome and I went back to the company to buy more and they said that their entire inventory had been purchased by an antenna company and sure enough I saw the $20 antenna being sold for $120 on Wilson.

After doing a bit of research, and commenting on their FB page, only to have those comments deleted, I decided to purchased these radios myself and try them. Yes... they do work well, but they are not "off grid" as the company claims that they are. Also there are other options out there for far less money, if that is important to you. Most existing hams are contemptuous egotistical gatekeeping elderly boomers who are generally insufferable to deal with most of the time and have been slowly dying off for decades; while simultaneously those of the cohort that continue to live on to achieve ancient status, continue to abuse, gate-keep and dishearten anyone new blood that might try to move into the hobby. They are making claims that if all 3 major carriers go down but the towers still have power, Rapid Radios will continue to work basically using the cell signals from those towers as repeaters because of the technology they use. Right now, they are also offering a free faraday bag with your order so if you don’t want them tracking, drop the radios in the faraday bag.

    • @HamRadio2
      @HamRadio2 13 часов назад

      I don't think the claim about working when the carriers are down is true. I think that, since their work on all 3 carriers (so they claim...) that if 1 or 2 carriers go down, they will still work on the 3rd. But OUTSIDE of cell tower range, they won't work at all - and THAT would truly be off-grid. These devices are NOT off-grid. Faraday bag... yes, good point.

    Maybe trees can radiate radio waves?? Perhaps they should obtain a license from an arborist and get their own call signs?

    Okay. Maybe she has out door speakers and the CB transmission is coming over them. I remember we had an RCA cabinet system when I was a young boy. It had a stereo, 8 track, and record player. Guy at the bottom of the block had a huge tower and amplified CB. We could hear him talking in the speakers of the system when it was turned off Eventually the fcc busted the guy. True story.

    One of the hams in my club years ago told a story of how, when he was a new ham as a teenager in the 1960s, his neighbors came over furious at him because "his big antenna was stealing all of the TV signals from their antennas" and they couldn't watch TV. That one was pretty special LOL

    When ever I get approached by a non-HAM, they almost always make some stupid joke about talking to Space Aliens. I usually just keep a totally neutral and tell them not Aliens, NSA. Peoples eyes will get real big. I then give a smile with dead eyes and say "Would you mind giving me your name. It's for Science." They usually run.

    Trees along with everything else sticking up above the ground will actually degrade radio signals.
